One of the most popular driving routes in the Yukon, this spectacular mountain drive takes travellers on a grand tour through picturesque Yukon towns, alpine passes and Southeast Alaska. From Whitehorse the route travels the South Klondike Highway to Skagway, Alaska through the scenic White Pass. A ferry connects to Haines, Alaska and the drive continues on the Haines Road and Alaska Highway through Kluane country and back to Whitehorse.

Day 1: Whitehorse

Arrive at Whitehorse Airport, collect your rental car and transfer independently to your hotel in central Whitehorse. The remainder of the day is yours to explore this historic town. Steeped in culture and history, Whitehorse is a contemporary place with a vibrant arts community, world-class attractions, and top-notch tourist services. It offers all the amenities of a big city, with an endearing small-town personality. Overnight: Edgewater Hotel Whitehorse

Day 2: Whitehorse to Skagway (180 kms)

Begin your northern adventure as you head south to Skagway, Alaska. A stop at Emerald Lake is a must for a photo, visit Carcross - originally called Caribou Crossing, this historic village is also known for its world-class mountain biking trails and scenic hiking, the town also has some of Yukon's oldest buildings. A walk across the Yukon pedestrian Bridge across Tutshi River Canyon. Travel onwards to Skagway, known as the gateway to the Klondike gold fields – from here, prospectors hiked the Chilkoot Trail to Bennett Lake and then navigated the Yukon River to Dawson City. Today, Skagway is a well preserved gold rush town and major cruise ship port with plenty of attractions for visitors. Overnight: Westmark Inn Skagway

Day 3: Skagway to Haines Junction (241 kms)

Start the day with a ferry trip between Skagway and Haines. Sit back and relax, taking in the spectacular views during this one hour sailing. On arrival in Haines, take to the Haines Road which re-enters Canada and passes through the alpine heights of Haines Pass and past breathtaking views of Tatshenshini-Alsek Park and Kluane National Park and Reserve to Haines Junction. Along the route don't miss the Chilkat River flats, this area is a critical habitat for bald eagles and the best place to observe eagles. A little over 2 hours from Haines is Million Dollar Falls, this government run campground offers walking trails, and a network of boardwalks and observation decks for viewing the falls. The entrance to Kluane National Park and Reserve is 20 minutes south east of Haines Junction. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is home to Canada’s highest peak, Mount Logan, and the largest icefields outside of the polar caps. Arrive in Haines Junction, a picture-postcard village at the edge of Kluane National Park and Reserve, Haines Junction boasts a wilderness adventure playground in its backyard. Day 4: Haines Junction to Whitehorse (158kms)

Depending on your time, spend the morning exploring Haines Junction or visiting Kluane National Park and Reserve. Depart Haines Junction for the journey back to Whitehorse. The more adventurous might like to consider white water rafting on the Tatshenshini River. An early start will be needed as the river is around two hours from Haines Junction, it is well worth it as this is an amazing experience for both adults and children with grizzlies, bald eagle and spawning salmon a common sight. Day 5: Whitehorse

Return your car to Whitehorse Airport prior to your departing flight.
