  • Chicken Rice: Boon Tong Key restaurant chains serve one of the best versions of this national dish. You may need to ask your cab driver or concierge for the location of the nearest restaurant
  • Laksa: Head to Katong along East Coat Road
  • Satay (meat skewers): Stalls at Lau Pa Sat near Raffles Place serve great satay. Ask around and order from the stall called 'Fatman Satay', arguably the best in town. While you're there, try barbeque seafood including fish, prawn, clams and more
  • Roti and Prata (Indian flat bread with curry): Thasevi Food along Jalan Kayu

  • Nyonya cooking - this Straits Heritage cuisine is understated but is really getting more attention. With influences from the Malay, Chinese, Portuguese and Indonesia, Nyonya cuisine combines the best flavours of different colonial cultures. Dishes are refined and involve lots of preparation but contain wholesome flavours. One of the best place to have a taste is the Blue Ginger Restaurant located on the east of the island
  • Tiffin room - relive the colonial days with a meal in Raffles Hotel famed Tiffin Room. Go for a buffet curry lunch or relax over high tea in the afternoon
  • Soup Restaurant - this chain of restaurant serves heritage cuisine from early Chinese immigrants. Beautiful interiors are accompanied by sumptuous food that's hard to find nowadays. Dishes are created with simple ingredients but flavoursome
  • Bengawan Solo - this popular shop made one of the best collections of local snacks or 'kuih' and various cakes with local flavours, including the ever popular Pandan cake
